Two friends generated by artificial intelligence talk about my experience as a DELE C1 examiner in May 2023
The podcast is about Carmen Madrid’s experience as a DELE C1 examiner on May 13, 2023. Carmen contacted Raquel, the exam coordinator, expressing her interest in examining and provided her examiner number.. She was then assigned to be an examiner for the DELE C1 exam. Prior to the exam, Carmen received documentation outlining the exam rules for both examiners and candidates, as well as videos demonstrating how to conduct the oral exam.. She found this documentation helpful, especially as she had previously only been an examiner and not support staff..
On the day of the exam, Carmen had to travel to a location north of Madrid1. The first meeting was scheduled for 8:15 AM with the coordinator, the head examiner, all the examiners, and support staff.. During this meeting, they received materials such as pencils, pens, erasers, exams, answer sheets, and a document outlining what to write on the board and announce aloud… They were also assigned classrooms for the written and oral exams, as well as the preparation room…
Carmen’s duties before the exam included setting up the written exam room by placing pencils on the tables and writing the exam schedule on the board, including the start and end times for each section, and instructions on how to fill out the answer sheets.. Candidates had to be seated according to their registration number, so she placed the answer sheets face down to help them find their seats. Additionally, she designated an area for candidates to leave their coats and bags, as per the exam rules..
Once the candidates arrived, Carmen checked their identification, directed them where to leave their belongings and told them where to sit. She reminded them of the exam rules, including the prohibition of mobile phones and electronic devices.. She also checked that their names were correctly written on the answer sheet… Before the exam started, Carmen distributed the exam booklets containing the reading and listening comprehension tests..
During the reading test, Carmen monitored the room and ensured the clock was visible.. After the reading test, she collected the answer sheets and prepared for the listening test. There was a problem with the audio at first, but the head examiner quickly resolved it. Before starting the listening test, there was a sound check, and candidates were given a warning about how loud the audio was. After the listening test and before the break, candidates were informed how long the break would be, when they needed to return, and that they needed to leave all exam materials in the room.. Carmen collected all the exam papers and materials..
After the break, C1 candidates took the written test, needing a pen. Carmen distributed pens and answer sheets and prepared the exam booklets.. As the examiners also get tired, she used spare time to eat a sandwich… Candidates then returned, left their belongings, and received the written exam booklets The exam began with a conference audio, played twice.. Approximately 15 minutes into the exam, support staff distributed the materials for the oral exam While supervising, Carmen reviewed the texts for the oral exam. During the written exam, one candidate needed to use the restroom and was escorted by support staff
At the end of the written exam, candidates were reminded to arrive 5 minutes early for their oral exam. They were also reminded that any complaints had to be made on the day of the exam Both candidates and examiners then took a lunch break16….
For the oral exam, two examiners were present: an interviewer and an assessor.. The examiners arranged the room so that the candidate could not see the assessor. The texts were placed on the table… Candidates had to show their passport, and the examiners tried to put them at ease by asking where they were from and whether they preferred to be addressed formally or informally.. The format of the exam was explained and a timer was set.. The examiner may or may not indicate that task one has ended.. For task 3, the candidate chooses one of two prompts.
After the oral exam, the examiners thanked the candidate and informed them that results would be available in approximately two months. While the candidate was taking the oral exam, the assessor marked them, and the interviewer asked the questions. After the candidate left, the interviewer provided a holistic mark, while the assessor provided analytical marks… This process was repeated for each candidate. At the end of the day, the examiners had to submit all the exam materials. Carmen finished at around 4:30 or 5 PM and then helped her in-laws with a move….
